Lemon idiyappam

Ingredients

  • Idiyappam [rice vermicelli, sandavai, rice sevai] – 1 cup
  • Lemon - 1
  • Peppercorns - 5
  • Roasted peanuts – ¼ cup
  • Ginger – 1 tbsp [finely chopped]
  • Green chilli – 1 [slit]
  • Curry leaves – 1 spring
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Bengal gram – 1 tbsp
  • Urad dal – 1 tbsp
  • Asafetida a pinch
  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed.

Preparation Method

  • Heat pan with 3 cups of water, add salt & let it boil. When boiling cut off heat, add idiyappam mix well, leave it for 5 min.
  • Then drain the water & immediately put it in cold water, drain & keep it aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan then add mustard seeds. Once it’s spluttered add Bengal gram, urad dal and peppercorns.
  • Then add roasted peanuts sauté. Add ginger, green chilli and curry leaves sauté. Then add asafetida & turmeric powder.
  • Add boiled idiyappam mix well. Then add lemon juice and salt mix well.
  • Cut off heat. Serve hot with coconut chutney or pickles, chips.
