Ingredients

  • Kollu [Horse Gram] – ¼ cup
  • Garlic – 3 cloves [mashed]
  • Dry red chilli – 1
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Curry leaves – 1 spring
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tbsp
  • Asafetida a pinch
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Water as needed

For Roasting & grinding Ingredients

  • Peppercorns - 5
  • Coriander seeds - 1/2 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Dry roast then grind to fine or coarse powder

Preparation

  • Wash and boil horse gram in a cooker for 5 whistles. Then drain water and put boiled horse gram in a plate & let it cool for 2 min then coarsely grind in a mixer jar or stone mortar
  • Heat oil in a pan then add mustard seeds let it splutter then add garlic sauté.
  • Add dry red chilli and curry leaves sauté. Then add asafoetida & turmeric powder.
  • Add horse gram water, salt mix well.
  • Add freshly ground powder, ground horse gram mix well & let it to boil.
  • When boiling cut off heat then sprinkle coriander leaves serve hot with rice.
