Ingredients

  • Fresh toor dal[Freash pigeon pea]- ½ cup
  • Shallots – 5
  • Garlic –2 cloves
  • Dry red chilli – 1
  • Curry leaves – 1 spring
  • Coriander leaves – 2 spring [chopped]
  • Red chilli powder – ¼ tbsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Fennel seeds – ½ tbsp
  • Urad dal – ½ tbsp
  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed

Roasting and grinding ingredients

  • Shallots [sambar onion] – 10
  • Garlic – 4
  • Ginger – 1 inch
  • Curry leaves – 1 spring
  • Dry red chilli – 1
  • Peppercorns – ½ tsp
  • Fennel seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Coriander seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Heat oil in a pan then add ingredients roast then cool it and coarsely grind.

Method

  • Peel off the green toor dal skin
  • Then wash & boil with red chilli powder, turmeric & salt added water till soft.
  • Heat oil in a pan then add mustard seeds & fennel seeds.
  • Once it’s spluttered then add urad dal
  • Add onion, garlic, curry leaves & dry red chilli sauté.
  • Add boiled green toor dal, turmeric & red chilli powder mix well.
  • Then add ground paste and salt mix well & Let it boil for 5 min.
  • Cut off heat then serve hot with rice.
