Green gram vada

Ingredients

  • Green gram [Pachai payaru] – 1 cup
  • Poha [Avul, beaten rice flakes]– ½ cup
  • Curry leaves – 2 springs [finely chopped]
  • Coriander leaves – 2 springs [finely chopped]
  • Mint leaves -3 springs [chopped]
  • Ginger – 1 inch cube
  • Garlic – 2 cloves
  • Asafetida [Hing] – ¼ tsp
  • Fennel seeds -1 tbsp
  • Dry red chilli - 2
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil – for deep frying

Preparation

  • Wash & soak Green gram overnight or 6 hours. Then wash & drain water.
  • Put green gram, dry red chilli, fennel seeds, garlic, ginger, salt & asafetida in a mixer jar& coarsely grind [don’t add water] then transfer this mixture to a bowl.
  • Add curry leaves, coriander leaves & poha mix gently.
  • Shape balls then flatten & deep fry till golden brown & crispy.
  • Serve hot with tea or coffee.
